The scholarship component is carried out in Romania by the Roma Education Fund Romania. The scholarship offers support for Roma youngsters to develop a career in the medical field, to participate at national and international medical congresses, and to take foreign language courses. The criteria for choosing the candidates for the program was based on their academic merit, coupled with their personal and professional motivation.
The grantees are offered support through the coverage of their university fees, foreign language courses fees, costs related to their attendance at international and national congresses and conferences, and through mentorship, advocacy training and the development of their communication skills.

During 2008 - 2015 the program offered support to 403 Roma medical students and 313 pupils from Roma communities who wished to begin a career in the medical field.
In 2011 to 2013 the project 'A Generation of Roma Specialists in the the Medical Field’ (www.profesionistiromi.ro) co-financed by European Social Funds, deepened and extended the activities of the RHSP program. Thus, the students were encouraged to develop over 100 voluntary medical projects in more than 40 Roma communities from Romania. Also, the grantees actively participated in the development of the antidiscrimination and awareness campaign. They were involved in the antidiscrimination street events and video, becoming characters of the promotional products
