Participant of seminar “Changing the Narrative on Roma Health”
Damir Bahtijarević is 6th year student of medicine at Medical Faculty University of Belgrade with 8.56 average mark. He is an active member of Roma NGO (local office of National Council of Roma national minority in Trstenik). Up to now he has been involved in numerous advocacy (visit to Roma settlements and promotion of Roma health, preparation of various events related to Roma people, help Roma children for easier integration in educational system) and media activities (interviews, video reports).He participated on the first regional workshop: “Capacity building for sustainable health care programs in South-Eastern Europe” held in Dubrovnik, Croatia in March 2015 where Roma project was presented in a nutshell. He spoke about his four years’ experience as RHSP beneficiary.
This year Damir also participated in Sinaia, Romania RHSP annual regional meeting in the panel discussion “RHSP and beneficiaries” as a representative of Serbian Roma students. He presented achievements, challenges, lessons learned and improvements regarding RHSP and mentoring component.
Damir is one of the authors of scientific research abstract entitled: “Inequalities in the utilization of health services in Serbia” (accepted for poster walk) and presenter at upcoming 8th European Public Health Conference in Milano in the period from 14 until 17 October 2015.
He has been selected as one of the participants to attend the Open Medical Institute - Open Society Foundation seminar “Changing the Narrative on Roma Health” from 1st until 7th November 2015 in Salzburg.
